Lyme Regis to Charmouth Challenge Sea SwimSwim Regulations

We take safety very seriously & trust you do too.

  1. All swimmers will need to be acclimatised to outdoor swim temperatures & to have experience of chop & open water.
  2.  The decision to swim in a Lyme Splash event must be taken individually.
  3. If you are in any doubt about the safety of a swim or your ability to complete it, you should not take part – there will always be another year when you could be better prepared.
  4. ALL swimmers must listen to & follow instructions from Lyme Splash crew, kayakers & safety boats. Failure to do so will jeopardise their own & others safety and they will be excluded from future events.

You will have a great team of support in the water & on shore but please note this swim is at your own risk.

Special Needs & Age Limit

If under 18 you must have parental consent before registering (download here).

We do our utmost to make this an inclusive event. Swimmers with disabilities who would like to swim should email the event manager, prior to the event. If we can, you will be accommodated within the existing water safety provision wherever possible.

It is essential that those with disabilities, or any concern about their ability to take part in this event, should seek their doctor’s advice before taking part.

If you have health issues please refer to your GP or a medical referee & ensure you are fit & able to swim. If you have health issues you will need to ask them to assess your health & ability & sign that you are able to take part (download here).

Wetsuits & Skin Swimmers

The Lyme Regis to Charmouth Challenge is a wetsuit event. All swimmers are to wear a full length, ankle-to-wrist neoprene swimming wetsuit.

Swimmers can apply to swim in skins only if permission has been sought & granted by the events team.

Permission is granted on the basis of prior proven experience of swims of this length and temperature, undertaken personally, as part of an event & on the basis of current training. In granting permission to swim in skins, we are looking for evidence of similar prior experience.

Safety cover is shared, rather than one to one, so the Lyme Regis to Charmouth Challenge is not the place to test out your endurance to cold for the first time. It would endanger you and other swimmers.

Please note that non-wetsuit permission cannot be guaranteed and tickets are sold on a “wetsuits compulsory” basis.  If you do not have your wetsuit on or permission for a skin-swim granted in advance, you will not be able to swim.

Tow Floats & Fins

Lyme Splash events do allow tow-floats with short lines.

Please inform the CHECK IN desk if you wish to use one. If your tow-line is too long we will make you shorten it before entering the water.

We do have ample safety cover who watch swimmers via their brightly coloured hats.

Snorkels and fins are NOT permitted as the hard edges risk injuring other swimmers.

Most swimmers with personal medication tuck it up the sleeve of their wetsuit. If this doesn’t cover your needs and you want to use a tow float for the purpose please let the event manager know prior to the event:  info@lyme-splash.com

Tickets are non-refundable, even in the case of event cancellation

After the statutory 14 day cooling off period, tickets cannot be refunded or deferred for any reason, including injury, medical issues, or factors outside of your control.

Please note that should the event be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions that includes, but is not limited to, high winds and heavy rain impeding the view of the swimmers by the safety cover on the day, or unexpected pollution in the water, no refunds will be given. Taking out event insurance that would allow refunds or a replacement event in this unlikely situation would add significantly to the ticket price and the view has been taken that it is better to have a lower ticket price and small risk.
